Volunteers Present $1 million Check to Genesis Hospital

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Volunteers of Genesis Hospital fulfilled a pledge six years in the making presenting a check to the hospital.

Back in 2012, the volunteers pledged to donate $1m to Genesis for the Genesis Heart and Vascular Center. Over 370 volunteers joined together to hold fundraisers such as the annual Tree of Love.

“We also do book sales, flower sales, the poinsettia sales at the end of the year. And then we had a new electronic sale and a flower sale in May,” said Carol Kohler the treasurer of the Genesis Volunteers.

Volunteers also work in the gift shop where they raised $90,000. Other volunteers are scattered throughout the hospital providing support.

“The clinical volunteers work all over the hospital. They show you where to go. They take books to the patients. So they’re all a big part of it,” said Kohler.

Next week the volunteers will be honored with a banquet for National Volunteer Week.
