Renovation grant for scouting service center
ZANESVILLE – Ohio The Muskingum Valley Council Boy Scouts of America received a large grant thanks to a local foundation.
The People’s Bank Foundation presented a $10,000 grant to assist with the expansion and renovation of the scouting service center. Senior vice president Todd Brown said that one of their principles is to support the youth and youth education in the community.
“We’re grateful for the good work that the Boy Scouts do here locally to develop training and citizenship skills in our youth,” said Brown. “I was involved with Boy Scouts as a youth and have been involved as a volunteer. It’s great to see the People’s Bank Foundation and the community as a whole help the Boy Scouts to advance and improve the facility here in Zanesville.”
The campaign has already raised about $500,000 to put towards the repairs and updates needed to the 50-year-old service center.
“The service center is 50 years old, it’s aged, it’s leaking in multiple places, so there are several purposes of the renovation,” said Scout Executive Ed Mulholland. “First of all, modernize it. We want to double the size of the scout shop. We want to make it handicap accessible, and that’s part of the reason for the expansion.”
Mulholland said he hopes the renovation will also make the center into the kind of place that people will want to spend time in.
