Journey through virtual reality

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The John McIntire Library gave people the chance to experience virtual reality.

David Booth of VR Now held a demonstration today where people could put on a virtual reality headset and try their hand at playing a game. The John McIntire Library IT Director Joe Dusenbery said it was exciting to bring new technology into the library.

“It’s cutting-edge technology, its something that, we’re trying to break down barriers,” said Dusenbery “One of the biggest barriers to something like virtual reality is the cost. It’s beyond games, it can be more of a virtual tour kind of thing. It would be something we would love to be able to do, something like that or to have our own equipment, and maybe someday we will.”

Dusenbery said it’s not only excited to give people a chance to try new technology but also a chance to change the way that libraries are viewed.

“We want people to be excited about new technology and we want to be able to offer it to the public,” said Dusenbery. “So that’s why we have him in here today. You don’t normally think of libraries and new technology and cutting-edge, but we’re working to try and change that.”

Dusenbery said they hope to have more events in the future for the public to get their hands on new technology and try things out. For more information about VR Now, you can call (740) 705-1573 or visit their website.
