Elder Beerman to Close
Employees of the Colony Square Mall Elder Beerman were notified Tuesday that the store will be closing in the next 10 to 12 weeks.
Franchise management was holding hope that another retail giant might buy the store after Elder Beerman parent company, Bon Ton Stores filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy, but that did not happen.
Nickie Van Dyne Norton said the closing will affect 200 stores and that a “big liquidation sale is possible.
Anchor Glass to Close
Anchor Glass Container announced it will be closing its Zanesville Mold Fabrication Plant, which employs more than 60 workers.
The Zanesville facility has been in operation over 100 years and projects its mold production will be completely finished by the end of November.
Zanesville Muskingum Port Authority Executive Director Matt Abbott said his office will provide effected employees transition assistance.
Port Authority Considers Purchasing Land
The Zanesville Muskingum Port Authority is looking to purchase land east of Zanesville to draw businesses and jobs into the area.
Port Authority Executive Director Matt Abbott is looking to capitalize on property with easy access to Interstate 70.
Abbott says companies are looking to buy land with established infrastructures in place so they can purchase the property today and start building tomorrow.
Murder Suspect Captured
A Zanesville man was arrested by U.S. Marshals Tuesday night and appeared in Zanesville Municipal Court Wednesday, where he was charged with the murder of 44-year-old Kylee Lindell.
Judge Bill Joseph set bond for the 30-year-old Ryan Adams at two million dollars.
County Engineer’s Death Under Investigation.
Muskingum County Engineer Doug Davis unexpectedly died Wednesday prompting Sheriff Matt Lutz to investigate the death of an elected county official.
No further details relating to the investigations have been released.
Protesters Flood School Board Meeting
Residents outraged over a 12-year-old’s suicide flooded the Maysville School Board meeting Thursday night.
Protesters demanded action be taken to stop bullying in the schools and believe teachers and administrators should be doing more to acknowledge the problem.
A concerned Maysville parent, Tammy Nutter was in attendance. She runs a Facebook Group called Maysville Families for Change, where she and other members are working to create legislation that addresses school bullying.
National Prescription Drug Takeback Day
The Zanesville/ Muskingum County Health Department will be hosting the National Prescription Drug Takeback Day Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 205 N. 7th Street in Zanesville.
