Drug Take Back Day

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A record-breaking amount of people dropped off old prescription drugs at the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department today.

Saturday, April 28th is National Drug Take Back Day. There were drop off locations at both the Health Department and Riesbeck’s Pharmacy on June Parkway in South Zanesville. The Health Department said 181 cars dropped off drugs at the Health Department alone.

“All our partners get together and we tell folks, you don’t have to think about what to bring. Whatever you want to get rid of, in your medicine cabinet, bring it…We’ll figure it out,” said C.E.O. of Muskingum Behavioral Health Steve Carrel.

Carrel said people just need to drive up and drop off the prescription drugs. He says the drug take back program keeps people safe.

“The idea behind this is to get drugs out of where they can be diverted and safely disposed of. So that we don’t have them illegally being used on the streets and feeding peoples addictions,” said Carrel.

Carrel said the Health Department and the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office helped make this possible. For those who still need to properly dispose of old, or expired prescription drugs, you can drop them off at the Muskingum County Jail.
