Bomb Squad Called to Somerset/State Route 13 Closed

The Perry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of what could be a pipe bomb. Sheriff William Barker says a resident found what appears to be a pipe bomb in her yard and took it to the Somerset Police Department and laid it on the Chief of Police’s desk. Barker says that it was described as a pipe that is six or eight inches long with wires coming out of it.  Somerset Fiscal Officer Kelly Beem says as a result all offices in the Somerset Square are closed. The Sheriff says the Franklin County Bomb Squad has been called to the scene to investigate the incident.  The Ohio Department of Transportation announced that State Route 13 is closed to traffic just north of the square in Somerset.  Motorist should use an alternate route.  The Sheriff’s Office says area schools are not affected and school buses are being routed around the closed area.
