Students receive scholarships on National Law Day

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- It’s National Law Day and the Muskingum County Bar Association is awarding three students with scholarships.
In 1957, the American Bar Association declared May 1st as a day to recognize the commitment to the rule of law the United States upholds. This year 18 students submitted essays on the topic of separation of powers and how the governmental system works today. Attorney Susan McDonald, a member of the Muskingum County Bar Association, said these scholarships will help students with paying their tuition.
“We’ve all had undergrad and law school bills, and every little helps. I remember being a student myself and it was a great help to our family,” said McDonald.
The committee read the essays and ranked them which resulted in three winners. The first place winner, Maria Lollini, who is a senior at West Muskingum High School, received a $1,000 scholarship which she will use to attend Ohio University Athens this fall to study media arts.
“This scholarship is really going to help me out a lot in terms of paying for books and other things and other things I’m going to need. So, it is really helpful and I’m really thankful for that,” said Lollini.
John Glenn High School senior Santana Browning came in second place winning a $500 scholarship. She will attend the University of Philadelphia and study political science and English. And Madeline Wilson, a Philo High School senior, came in third place winning $200 dollars. She will study English to be an editor at Miami of Ohio.
