STARS summer camp

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- As the school year draws to a close, its time to start thinking about summer and summer camps.
Girls in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade will be able to participate in the 15th Annual STARS summer camp. A program where young girls can work on building a positive self-esteem and have fun just being a girl.
“They’re going to get to go through about 12 different workshops all focusing on building a positive self-esteem,” said camp coordinator Ronelle Barnett. “What we’re doing is focusing on the girl power aspect, building that self-esteem, that self-confidence.”
Some of the activities will include building and racing cardboard cars, homemade crafts, and learning about health and wellness. Barnett said not only are the activities fun, but it’s a great place for girls to come and just be themselves.
“I just think its great just to have the girls just be able to have that safe place to come and just be a girl and learn how to deal with everyday stuff, whether its friendships, whether its parent stuff, whether its just body stuff,” said Barnette. “You know we do just a lot of body image things. I just think its just some place for them to come and not feel that they are being judged, not feeling they need to impress anybody, just to be themself.”
Barnett says that anyone still wanting to apply should do so as soon as possible. Applications, along with the fifteen dollar camp fee, can be sent to Muskingum Behavioral Health at 601 Underwood St. Zanesville, Ohio.
