Downtown Memorial Fund
One local group is almost to their goal to pay off the Downtown War Memorial but they still need your help.
The Veterans Council is now only $25,000 short of their $175,000 goal to pay off the Memorial. Local vets were out at Reisbecks North and South, Ross IGA in Frazeysburg, Shegogs IGA in New Concord, Sunrise IGA in Zanesville, and Campbells in Zanesville and in Duncan Falls, a couple of weeks ago to collect donations.
"It was actually really a good success we did almost $3,700 at the various grocery stores," Dittmar said.
The veterans will be out again September 3rd and 4th to the above grocers collecting donations to help offset the cost. Veteran’s Council Secretary Treasurer Jeff Dittmar said it’s important to get the Memorial paid off to help honor all Muskingum County soldiers that have lost their lives during World War II and the Korean war.
"Every one of these helmets here denotes somebody who has lost their life in trying to defend our country so that you can I can be here talking about this event today," Dittmar said.
The Memorial is located at the corner of 5th and Main Streets in downtown Zanesville. You can mail a donation to The Muskingum County World War II Korean Memorial at
