New Concord Skatepark Opening
After four years of planning and anticipation, the time has finally arrived for New Concord skateboarders.
The grand opening of a new skatepark took place today at 14300 John Glenn School Road. Skaters and families came out to celebrate, even professional skateboarder, Doug Brown, showed up for the event.
"Well today this is special because I was here two years ago, because they were trying to raise money in their efforts for the skatepark, and this is grassroots stuff, this is stuff I believe, I’m one of these kids out here, I’m from a small town, getting a skatepark is so huge, I wanted to be a part of this," said Brown.
Kathy Normansill, Committee Chairperson, says those who took part in the planning process are thrilled to see their dreams become a reality.
"It’s, it’s exciting, it’s exciting and a relief, I’m watching these kids and I’m just amazed seeing some of the stuff they’re doing the fact that you know, you can watch them, they’re very respectful of each other, they take turns, they’re having fun, they’re trying stuff that they never, some of them have never tried before, its just, it’s exciting to see it, and yeah, just a relief," she said.
Normansill asks that all skateboarders treat the park with respect.
