New Birthing Guidelines

New guidelines released by the American College of OB-GYNs say attempting a natural birth after a C-section is safe for most women.

Over the past 40 years the C-section rate has risen to almost one-in-three births.

However, only 8.5 percent of women are opting for subsequent vaginal births even though they are considered safe after a C-section.

The new guidelines say that women with two previous C-sections, women carrying twins and those with an unknown type of uterine scar are now candidates to attempt a natural birth.

The goal is to decrease the number of C-sections performed each year.

The College says 60-to-80-percent of women who attempt natural births after C-sections are successful.
