Bill Waiting to See Ohio House Floor

Ohio House Bill 448 is idle right now. It’s waiting to be brought to the House floor, and 94th District State Representative Troy Balderson says he’s not sure when that will happen.

He sat down with WHIZ to explain what’s all included in the bill.

"It goes into effect 2014, and there will be no retro-fitting of old buses. It will be on new buses only, " says Balderson.

That means if the bill is passed, any bus that is purchased, leased, or rented after January 20-14 must have seat belts, but the old buses, without seat belts, can still be used.

Balderson says he’s supportive of the bill.

"Seat belts save lives, and I’m first-hand experience of that. I was an 18-years-old driver and almost lost somebody in my vehicle. So, they lived, but it sure was a scary moment on Interstate 70, " says Balderson.

The Ohio House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee unanimously approved the bill on June 2nd…the same day Kasey was killed.
