Fall Food Dieting Tips

Fall has returned and so have the delicious comfort foods.

The age old question, how can I eat my favorite foods and still remain healthy? I sat down with nutrition expert Carolee Ellis to learn more about how you can indulge in the tasiest of treats without gaining those extra pounds.

"There’s nothing worse than feeling too full, there’s nothing worse than over eating and over indulging and wishing that it was something you didn’t do, there’s nothing, no calories are worth that," said Carolee Ellis.

When making your favorite recipes, Ellis suggests switching to healthier ingredients and using low-fat and low-sodium dips. Holiday parties always have lots of food, she says by skipping appetizers, you’ll be able to eat more later.

"When you’re going to the party, think about what they’re going to have and have maybe more vegetables at lunch and save some of those calories for that bigger meal in the evening," said Ellis.

If there is a dessert you’re dying to try, tell yourself you’re only going to have it at one holiday party instead.

With football season going on, many are tailgating by drinking beer which tends to have a lot of calories.

"There’s lower calorie, there’s 55 and up calorie beer, try to do more of those, or you can also add spritzers to the wine, like sparkling water or diet soda, try to have a more clear liquor like vodka versus the harder darker liquors," said the nutrition expert.

Ellis says the most important thing to keep in mind is eating and drinking in moderation.
