Sheriff Becomes President

Muskingum County’s Sheriff can add a new position to his resume.

Sheriff Matt Lutz was sworn in as the new president of the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association, after having served on the board of directors.

The Association is made up of the 88 sheriffs of Ohio.

Sheriff Lutz steps in for outgoing president Sheriff Mike Simpson.

“I don’t know if I had a goal to do it, but when I got elected as sheriff after the first term you see how valuable the BSSA can be. There’s a lot of ideas out there,” said Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz. “A lot of the social networking that we do, you get ideas from other sheriff’s on what they do in their counties and some of that can be brought back to our county. ”

Sheriff Lutz said as president along with being the face of the organization at different functions, he’ll address lawmakers and push for positive change in the criminal justice system.

“I’ve been at to the state house to testify on legislation before, but I probably will be doing a little bit more of that and so it’s a huge honor and for me,” said Sheriff Lutz. “I got to Columbus pretty regular for board of directors meetings and I’ve taken an active part in that to stay involved and it is a huge honor.

Sheriff Lutz begins his new role in January and will serve for one year.
