Flash Fire on Roof of Buffalo Wild Wings
A man suffers burns to his arms and hands after a roof fire Friday afternoon at a Zanesville Sports Bar.
Zanesville Fire Chief Dave Lacy say around 1:45 p.m. a contractor was working on an air conditioning unit on the roof of Buffalo Wild Wings and was engaged in a cutting or soldering operation using a torch when it came in contact with freon and caused a flash fire.
"It’s just something where normally you have an accumulation of gas or some flammable liquid and you have a source of ignition come about and it just makes a ball of fire and essentially burns itself out," said Chief Dave Lacy of the Zanesville Fire Department.
Chief Lacy says due to the injuries, the rescue team had to determine an alternate route to bring the victim down from the roof.
"In this particular case where he had the burn injuries to his hands and arms we felt it was the safest way to get him off the roof that’s to be put him in that stokes basket and lower him down," he said.
The victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment.
The patrons of Buffalo Wild Wings were temporarily evacuated during the incident. There was no structural damage to the building. The Sports Bar is open for business.
