Drive-By Shooting Victim Speaks Out

Zanesville police continue to investigate a drive-by shooting that happened early Wednesday morning.

Lt. Bill Shaw says it happened around 1 a.m. at 218 Corwin Avenue, when a small green car drove by the home and fired several shots.

Larry Wright, who rents the home from his father, was watching TV at the time of the shooting, and says he had just finished taking his dogs back inside.

"I heard two loud bangs, sounded like M-80’s." he said. "My neighbors came out here with flashlights, so I came outside to see what was happening. When I went to go back inside, I happened to look over to the left and saw three bullet holes in my house."

Wright says he thought he only heard two shots, but has found four bullet holes in his house, and a patch of dirt in his front yard that was also struck. He says after police arrived, they did find several bullet casings nearby.

One of the bullets went through the home, and directly through the headboard of the bed Wright normally sleeps in. On top of everything though, Wright says he is thankful to be alive.

"I didn’t realize it went through the headboard until the cops got here and I took them in." Wright said. "That’s when I realized it went through my headboard and stuck in the dresser. The cop, he asked me, "Who normally sleeps here?", and I said "Me, usually I’m in bed already". He (the officer) said, "Well thank got you weren’t tonight.""

Wright says Corwin is usually a quiet road, and he has no idea who would have done this. He says it’s a shame people can no longer feel safe in their own homes, and has switched bedrooms since the incident.

No one was injured in the drive-by shooting, and Lt. Shaw says investigators are still not sure what the motive of the shooting was.
