Efforts Continue to Repeal SB 5
Another local effort is taking place to help repeal senate bill 5.
A drive-thru petition signing was held at the IBEW Hall on State Route 60 north in Nashport. The controversial bill greatly reduces the collective bargaining rights of public employees. Brian Beallor, a field rep for the Ohio Association of Public School Employees says they are near the approximate 232,000 signatures needed to put the measure on the ballot.
"I think with the next couple weeks, you’ll see and hear a loud message from the state of Ohio that they are not going to stand for Mr. Kasich and the legislators," said Beallor.
Beallor says the state wide repeal effort not only affects those in the public sector, but the private sector as well.
"This trickles down to all middle class people, they are trying to eliminate our essential collective bargaining rights and it’s about workinh class peolple being able to have a say in their working conditions and benefits and wages," said Beallor.
The deadline for filing signatures with the Ohio Secretary of State is June 30th.
