Vista Hosts Golf Camp
While some young golfers may one day dream of winning a major title there first attempts at the game may look a little rough.
That’s why it doesn’t hurt to have some lessons along the way. 95 students are taking part in the Vista Golf Camp, where they learn the fundamentals from experienced instructors.
"We’ve got ten volunteers. A couple PGA pro instructors that will do some on course instruction with them and our volunteers are at each station working with kids on an individual basis and in a little group setting," said Ryan Schmidt of Vista Golf Course.
At the camp they learn putting, chipping and driving.
"Their favorite thing is the driving range," said Schmidt. "Probably because its everybody’s favorite thing when the are learning the game of golf. It’s when you get out there on the range and you can hit the ball really far a couple times. It’s what brings you back.
"I’ve learned how to make a new stance and putt better," said Camper Tyson Stillion.
"It gives you a good experience on how to golf and how to drive and chip," added Brody Smyghe.
Along with the game life lessons are also learned.
"I think it teaches them a lot of good things about life," said Volunteer Frank Scigole. "We just had a discussion on the tee about being courteous to players in your group and people playing out in front of you. There’s a lot of rules in golf. If they’re adhered to it gives them good life lessons."
Adhering to the rules and practicing hard might just lead to a hole in one.
