Mary Elizabeth (Hoffer) Krause (August 18, 1936 – June 22, 2016)

There are no tears in Heaven, only here on Earth. God has called His angel home to celebrate her rebirth. The heart and soul of our family, Mary Elizabeth Krause age 79, died at her home in Zanesville surrounded by her loving family on June 22, 2016 at 7:14 AM. Mary retired from Zanesville City Schools, where she drove a school bus filled with many children she took under her wing as if they were her own. Students still asked her if she remembered them, and shared memories of how she touched their lives. Mary’s life was full of family, friends, and faith. Her goal in life was to serve others, and to shepherd her children and their children to the right path with love; laughter; compassion; and sometimes, a little push. She lit up a room with her smile, wit, and brilliant blue eyes. Everybody loved hearing her stories of her childhood with her siblings: William Mohler, John Mohler (deceased), George Mohler (deceased), Earl Hoffer, Daniel Hoffer, Robert Hoffer (deceased), Jimmy Mohler (deceased), Wilma Rock, Doris Sowers, Linda Robinson, Sandra Church, and Diane Kries.
Mary was born to the late Christian and Garnet (Lowry) Hoffer of Adamsville.
She was received in heaven by her Lord and loving husband of 63 years, Marion (Sonny) Krause Sr., who has been residing in Heaven since October 9, 2011. Mary defined the word Mother; not only did she raise her children, but she played the role of friend; cheerleader; camping buddy; and chaperone on rides up and down Maple Avenue, trips to Lake Isabella, and the Drive in Movies. She left a legacy of 6 children, Brenda Bronkar, Christine (Vance) Saunders, Laura (Abby) Vousden, Gloria (John) Stubbs, Cindy (Ron) Lanning and Sonny (Heather) Krause, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grand child, and one beloved schnauzer Truman (Trummie) Krause.
First Christian Church was her second home and extended family. Mary served on many committees at church, such as the Women’s Fellowship, the choir, as a deaconess, and a pastoral visitor. In addition, she was active with the Senior Center, Community Action Agency, auxiliary member of the Salvation Army, and volunteered at Bethesda Hospital.
