Wave of Car Vandalism Hits Zanesville

Neighborhoods near the Colony Square Mall are being targeted in a wave of car vandalism.
"Normally we attribute it to people that are out of school," said Police Chief Eric Lambes. "With the good weather, people are out all night, and they’re up to no good."
Lambes said no arrests have been made, but police are taking extra precautions.
"Hopefully we’ll have enough officers to put plain clothes officers out there," said Lambes. "If we notice that somebody’s out on foot or someone that doesn’t belong in an area, we’re going to try to keep them under surveillance."
The suspects are targeting unlocked vehicles, but even if you remember to lock your car, electronics like GPS devices and cell phones are magnets for vandalism.
Courtney Wallace was leaving her Muirwood Apartment on Monday when she found her car vandalized in the parking lot.
"They smashed in my passenger side window," said Wallace.
Wallace said the thieves got away with her mp3 player.
"I had my mp3 player sitting out, and my old purse was sitting on the floor, so next time I’ll definitely know to take it inside or hide it somewhere in my car, but I think that’s one of the reasons I got hit," said Wallace.
"You want to make your car as visible and secure as possible," said Lambes. "Try to work with your neighbors to make sure that everyone is keeping an eye out."
The break-ins are still under investigation. If you have any information, call the Zanesville Police Department at (740) 455-0712.
