Annual Gun Bash at the Perry County Fairgrounds

Annual Gun Bash At The Perry County Fairgrounds

Beer, food and good company. That’s what the annual Gun Bash at the Perry County Fairgrounds is all about.

The Gun Bash took place Saturday to help raise money for the Perry County Fair. Fair board member, Peggy Snider, said that the actual fair doesn’t make enough money to upkeep the fairgrounds, so they created the Gun Bash.

"It’s fun seeing all the people, hobnobbing, talking to people," Snider said. "It’s great. We sell out the last two years, we sold out again this year. It’s 3,500 tickets, so that’s a lot of people to see and talk to."

A little over 3,200 people paid the $50 entry fee to attend. For the cost of a ticket people ate pulled pork sandwiches, drank beer and hopped that their name would be called for the grand prize drawing. Gun Bash is the largest fundraiser that the Perry County Fair has all year. Fair board members said it raises enough money for projects around the fairgrounds, as well as funding for the annual fair.

"All the money that we raise through gun bash stays right here on the fairgrounds," Snider said. "Years ago we started Gun Bash because the coliseum fell in and we needed a new coliseum, so Gun Bash was started. It paid off the coliseum and we kept it going to help with maintenance and improvements, and we just built a new horse barn this year, so money will be going towards a new horse barn."

The fair board expressed thanks to everyone who came out to Gun Bash Saturday afternoon.
