More Potholes Appear With Recent Thaw

The rain over the last 24 hours caused more than flooding issues around the area. Even more potholes are now appearing on city streets.
Three crews a day are out and about working very hard to keep up with the demands. We made a visit to City Hall and spoke to Public Service Director, Jay Bennet who gave us an overview of the current problem.
“Much like spring brings flowers and bloom, the thaw with every season here in Ohio brings the blooming of potholes so they are cropping up. I talked to the street superintendent this morning and he was on his daily drive and saw so many. It’s just overnight because of the thaw and the rain and the transformation of the streets warming up, they crack out, so its pretty bad out there.”
It costs the city $115 for a ton of cold mix which is used to temporarily patch the holes. Bennett says on average, it costs about $25 to $40 to provide the fix. Bennett says a more permanent solution is coming very soon.
“We have a ton of hot mix paving this year. So as soon as the weather heats up and the asphalt plant starts processing. City Council has a measure on it. Its docket right now up for the second reading to go out and bid for some additional paving. So we are well over $1.5 million in asphalt spreading around this summer.”
Bennett asks your patience while crews work to fix the roadways. If you want to report a pothole, you can call City Hall: (740)455-0612
