The Muskingum County Fairgrounds was active today with people preparing for the 2016 fair.

Rides, games, animal pins, booths, and food stands were being set up for the crowds arrival starting Sunday. The fair can often be seen as an opportunity to gain a profit. However, Building and Grounds Comity Member, David Watton said, The Unity Church of the Nazarene use their proceeds to give back to the community that provides for them.

“We do this as mission work,” said Watton. “All the proceeds and all the profits go out to the community and some of it go to the church for different projects, but we give it all away.”

The Unity Church of the Nazarene has been apart of the Muskingum County Fair for a few years and each year they open up one day prior to opening day so they can provide for the other workers.

“We like to try and feed all the workers here on Saturday and make sure everything’s working properly see if we need to make any adjustments anywhere,” said Watton. “The workers, the people in the barns, you know the farmers and their family’s come over and get something while their setting up. ”

The 2016 fair is held between August 14 and August 20. The Unity Church of the Nazarene opens August 13.
