A new mural for the VFW Hall in Newark
A new mural now greats visitors at the VFW hall in Newark.
Bob Steen and Sean Elliott have worked many hours to plan and bring this mural to life. Both men are veterans themselves and said that it means a lot to be able to honor other veterans with this mural.
Elliott explained what it means to him to have created this mural. "When I talk to other veterans or people that have had family members that are missing in action or that have served. The response of people coming up and giving me hugs, coming up and just saying thank you for doing something. They see themselves, they see their time in service in something that I created, so it’s the feeling and the connection that I make with other veterans is just amazing."
Steen and Elliott have worked on five projects now and spent around 100 hours on each one. They feel that giving people this art helps to connect family members to their loved ones who have served, and it gives veterans a way to remember their days serving.
"I wanted to share the honor and pride that I had when I was in, and I wanted to share with the community around with people that may have family members and stuff like that that have maybe not known everything they did, or everything they gave up," Elliott said.
Elliot and Steen revealed the mural Saturday to a group of veterans, along with their families and friends.
