Accident leaves some without power and authorities looking for driver

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A crash on the city’s southwest side has some residents without power and has authorities searching for the driver.

According to Sgt. Melanie Appleman with the Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol around 5:26 p.m. on Sunday the Patrol received a call of an accident on Coopermill Road. A truck was heading west on the road near the Potts Lane intersection when it drove off the side of the road, struck a mailbox, went into a ditch, and then struck a utility pole.

The crash left several homes in the area without power for at least six hours. The driver of the truck fled the scene of the accident. The sole passenger in the vehicle, 34-year-old Vivian Evans of Zanesville, remained at the scene and was taken to Genesis with non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses describe the driver of the truck as a black male, between 30 and 40 years old, and wearing blue jeans with a gray shirt. He also may of been injured in the accident. Sgt. Appleman said alcohol is believed to of play a role in the crash and could be the reason the suspect fled.
