Aircraft Enthusiasts Visited Zanesville Today

Airplane enthusiasts came from around the area and around the country to the fly-in at the Zanesville Municipal Airport Saturday.

To some people at the show flying has always been a part of their life, but that’s not the case for Joe Wesolowski.

Wesolowski commented on skipping a family trip to Florida when he was in high school because he was afraid of flying. Then he moved to Alaska. One weekend he went to a fly-in fishing trip which reversed his outlook on airplanes.

"I was hooked from that minute on and I wanted to learn to fly, get my own plan, which I did right away," Wesolowski said.

Shortly after going on that fishing trip he learned how to fly and got his own plane. Now he lives in a remote part of Alaska that has no roads leading to his house. So he lives a few feet off his runway and uses his plane in everyday life.

But Wesolowski’s path to flying could not be more different from Jeff Wheeler’s. Wheeler started flying when he was sixteen years old, and he made a career out of it.

"It’s been a passion since I was 16, so it’s what I’ve been doing ever since then," Wheeler said. "It’s what I do for a living, so it’s kind of fun to get to do what you love to do."

The fly-in gave people the opportunity to walk around the tarmac and see planes on the ground and in the sky.
