Animal shelter society is preparing for dog and cat food donation

ZANESVILLE – The shelter is partnering with rapid fire equipment to provide pet owners with food for their animal but they are also giving away smoke detectors for homeowners.
“It’s going to be handled just like all of your food pantries and right now in Muskingum County. They’re going to drive through (and) pop open their trunks. We’re going to put in their choice – dog, cat; they must have two. We’ve got some dog biscuits. The first 120 people in the line will receive a free smoke detector from Rapid Fire Equipment Company,” the Shelter Society’s Board of Directors’ April Cohagen – Gibson said.
Cohagen – Gibson is happy to conduct the drive because she feels its very important to not forget to look after your pet during the unprecedented fight against COVID-19.
“It’s the pet that sometimes, folks; we lose sight of that. I think its very important to give back to our community. It can be very expensive; food for our animals but sometimes its priorities for these folks. We’ve actually had folks contact the Animal Shelter Society who want to surrender their animals because they had a priority of either feeding their children or their pets and we’ve been giving food away here at the animal shelter ever since this broke,” Cohagen – Gibson said.
The drive will take place on Saturday, May 16th from 9:30 to noon at the Animal Shelter. The Shelter will not be open itself and people will have to receive the items as they drive through.
