Animal Shelter Society Prepares for Final Feral Felines, Urges Pet Owners to Plan Ahead for Fireworks

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Animal Shelter Society is gearing up for the Final Feral Felines of the Season.

Feral Felines Back to the 80’s will be this Saturday, June 27th, from 10AM to 1PM at the Tiny Tap Tavern and is for ladies only that are 21 and over.

April Gibson, the Executive Director, says they need a little time to prepare for the Final Edition of the beloved singalong brunch, so the Shelter will be closed to customer service on Friday, June 26th.

“We just put everything into the fundraisers because that’s what keeps our 100% non-profit going.” Gibson said. “So my gals, for the customer service team will be there, of course we’re operational, 7 days a week, we just want everyone to be aware of that.”

As the 4th of July and America’s 250th birthday celebrations come along, Gibson says this is the best time to get your pet into the vet if they have fears of loud noises or fireworks.

She says your vet could make some recommendations to help your pet through all the party chaos roaring outside, like a thunder vest, medication, or creating a safe place within your home for your pet to run to.

Gibson added that the Shelter becomes inundated with stray pets after the 4th, so if you’ve been thinking about microchipping your furry friend, now is the best time.

“When the animals hear these loud booms and that, let’s say they’re outside, a lot of times they take off and end up at either the K-9 Center, they’re giving us a call, they’re overwhelmed, we’re overwhelmed.” Gibson said. “So each year during this time, we offer a special on microchips. They could have tags, they can fall off, or you don’t put them on their collars. Microchips are pretty much a guarantee, because anybody in this business or vets will have a scanner to find out who they are.”

Microchips are currently available for $10 a piece and if you are interested in getting your pet one before the 4th of July holiday, you can reach out to the Animal Shelter Society.
