ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Artist Colony of Zanesville holds the First Friday Art Walk each month in downtown Zanesville and selects their artist and musician of the month prior to the event.

The ArtCoz artist of the month for March is Mercedes Carletti. Carletti enjoys woodburning custom crafts as a hobby and relates what being artist of the month means to her.

“It means alot to me because I put hours into these and for my work to get out there and people to see it, it just makes me feel better. makes me feel good to know that I can do something like that,” Carletti said.

Carletti noted that being able to do something that other people enjoy but don’t typically do is what she likes most, and that her work continues to evolve from new techniques she learns every day.

“My art teacher in high school saw it in me when I was younger but I wasn’t really interested in it at the time. And then I did simple designs like that one and I hated it. I was like this is boring. Then I did one of my son and everybody loved it, so then I did Elvis and went from there,” Carletti said.

Carletti’s work can be found on her Facebook page and will be on display this weekend at the Kristen Brown Art Studio located at 605 Market Street.

Local entertainer Matt Frampton was awarded Artcoz musician of the month. Frampton has been performing throughout the region since the 1980s. Frampton joined Artcoz last year and remains a popular fixture in the community. Frampton’s schedule can be found on his Facebook page.
