ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Artist Colony of Zanesville is a group of artists that have joined together to promote local artists and artisans along with their creativity. ArtCoz member Lori Ward was chosen as January’s Artist of the Month and she explained how she works with metals to design her own jewelry.

“When I was a kid, my mom had a good friend, she was a teacher in Texas, she wore the most beautiful jewelry you ever saw,” Ward said. “And I always wanted to make jewelry, and started with beaded jewelry and then from there I wanted to make rings and you can’t do that with beads. So I started doing a lot of YouTube school and learned how to make jewelry with sterling silver and copper.”

Ward has been a member of ArtCoz for 5 years and has made many friends who appreciate and share a passion for creativity. Her work will be on display at this week’s First Friday Artwalk but you can also visit her online.

“Online you can find me at signsbylori57 on Facebook and um, you’ll kind of have to catch me at a First Friday show,” Ward said. “This Friday, January 6, and I’ll be here at BuncoJess Gallery at 126 Muskingum Avenue and we’ll be here probably from 5 to 8:30, maybe even 9 O’clock depending on the group of people we’ve got coming through.”

You can attend this Friday’s, First Friday ArtWalk to show support for the local art scene because January 6, marks the one-year anniversary of the Masonic Temple fire that displaced many Zanesville artists.
