Bishops one-and-done in state tournament

Rosecrans

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — Just like they did in basketball, Strasburg-Franklin ends Rosecrans tournament run in baseball as well after the Tigers defeated the Bishops 9-4 on Saturday afternoon.

Rosecrans entered the game as the 3-seed in the Division IV East District, giving them home-field advantage against 7th-seeded Strasburg-Franklin. But a disaster second-inning put the Bishops in a hole too big to climb out of.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but then used a 7-run second inning to open up a commanding 8-0 lead.

The Bishops tried to chip away at the deficit, answering with three runs of their own in the home-half of the second to cut the lead to 8-3. However they weren’t able to mount any rallies to really threaten the Tigers lead the rest of the way.

Each team scored a run in the 5th inning, giving Strasburg-Franklin the 9-4 victory.

While the Bishops post-season run comes to an end on Saturday afternoon, they still have make-up games against Fairfield Christian and Harvest Prep next week before their season officially ends.
