Blue Devil boys eager for basketball season to tip off

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – There seems to be a consensus this year for the goals of the Zanesville boys basketball team.

It’s a veteran Blue Devil team that will return five seniors this year. The rest of the varsity roster is made up of four juniors and a sophomore.

Cobe Curry is one of two junior captains on this year’s team. He says the Blue Devils have set very concrete goals this year.

“We definitely want to make it to regionals. But we want to make it as far as our talent will let us. And we think we can make it far,” said Curry.

Last season Zanesville finished the regular season 11-11 and bowed out of the tournament in the first round with an overtime loss to New Albany.

Senior Cameron Brooks-Harris signed earlier this month to play college basketball next winter at DI Marshall. He says he’s looking forward to his final year as a Blue Devil. He said that 28th year head coach Scott Aronhalt is always pushing his team reach their potential. Brooks-Harris said with that motivation he’s set lofty individual goals this year.

“I want to get up on that wall (referring to the wall in Winland Gymnasium that honors all the all-Ohio Blue Devil basketball players.) Coach “A” always talks about the old players who are up on that wall and how you haven’t done anything if you’re not up on that wall. I’m trying to get on that wall. That’s my goal,” said Brooks-Harris.

While there is a lot of upperclassmen on this year’s team, Curry says fans should look out for the lone underclassmen.

“We have sophomore Cory Norris coming off the bench. He’s a great shooter. He’s someone to look out for in the future,” said Curry.
