Blue Devils reflect on football season, look forward to next year

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – It wasn’t the year they were hoping for, but the future is certainly bright for the Zanesville football team.
Tuesday evening the Blue Devils hosted their yearly season ending banquet to hand out season awards and look back at the campaign. Zanesville finished just 3-7 this year, but head coach Chad Grandstaff knows there was much to be proud of.
“With our season we faced some adversity. It didn’t go the way we wanted. But I was proud of our seniors and how they continued to lead through out the year and they finished what they started. Some of the highlights were obviously beating Newark. That was one of our main points. These seniors were able to do that and get us back on the winning track against Newark,” said Grandstaff.
Now starts a long nine months of waiting for the 2018 season to kickoff for ZHS. This year’s Zanesville team was a young one that featured 23 sophomores on the roster. Coach Grandstaff is hopefully that most of them will return to lead the Blue Devils next season.
“We only graduated 12 seniors and we have 10 juniors and 23 sophomores and quite a few of them played this year. Hopefully they got a lot of experience under their belt and we expect them to be big contributors next year,” said Grandstaff.
The 2018 Blue Devil season will likely kickoff Aug. 25.
