Bobcats edge Zips to win MAC East crown

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio Bobcats are headed back to Detroit after a five year hiatus.

Ohio edged Akron Tuesday night, 9-3, to clinch the MAC East title and punch a ticket to the MAC championship.

Bobcat kicker Louie Zervos connected on all three field goal attempts to tie the NCAA record for field goals by a freshman. Zervos scored on kicks from 37 and 49 yards in the second quarter and added a 23-yard kick in the fourth quarter.

The Bobcats will play the winner of Western Michigan and Toledo Friday, Dec. 2 at Ford Field.
