Boy Scouts to Hold Join-Up Day Thursday

Parents of children across nine counties are being encouraged to consider allowing their youngsters to join Cub Scouts and volunteers will be available at elementary schools Thursday evening to help streamline the process.

“Cub Scouting is a great family-centered program that teaches kids new skills. They do lots of crafts, games and socialization skills. They’re going to learn how to go camping and develop self-confidence and self-esteem in that way. It’s just an all-around excellent program to help parents raise their children,” says Ed Mulholland, Executive Director of the Muskingum Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Mulholland says scouting teaches life lessons, valuable skills and leadership.

“Any child, boys or girls, from kindergarten through fifth grade are welcome to join Cub Scouting. They don’t have to start at the first age. If they’re in fourth grade and they show interest now, they can join in fourth grade and just start from that level. If they just come out Thursday night with Mom and Dad, we explain how Cub Scouting works and they can make a decision,” he adds.

After a child ages out of Cub Scouts, at grade six and through age eighteen, they can be part of Scouts BSA.
