NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio – Starting the basketball season on the road and against a league foe can be daunting, but the Zanesville boys basketball team had little problems with New Philadelphia Friday night.

The veteran Blue Devil team lead by 13 at halftime and outscored the Quakers by six in the second half to win their opener 66-47. ZHS was incredibly efficient from the charity stripe, going 19-21 as a team.

Junior Cobe Curry and senior Cameron Brooks-Harris turned in nice nights. Curry scored 18 points, while Brooks-Harris had 20 points, 10 rebounds, and was a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line.

Despite the big win, 28th year head coach Scott Aronhalt knows there is always room for improvement.

“The most disappointing thing I thought was our rebounding.  We got a little quick to get out and we didn’t finish off some plays. A lot of things to work on but I’m really pleased with the first effort,” said Aronhalt.

Up next for Zanesville is a home game on Tuesday against Dover.
