“Burrow Boxes” a Blessing to Perry Co. Residents

Cincinnati Bengal’s Quarterback Joe Burrow is inspiring a movement among a church in Ohio.
Jim Wilson is the senior pastor at the Church of the Messiah in Westerville. Around the time of the Super Bowl he gave a sermon about blessings and using blessings to help others. His example, Burrow’s Heisman Trophy acceptance speech where the QB spoke about food insecurity for those in Appalachia.
Pastor Wilson then challenged his congregation to take home a “Burrow Box” fill it with supplies and return it to the church to help Appalachian communities.
“Appalachia covers 13 different states and Ohio is one of those. In Ohio 32 of the 88 counties are considered Appalachia,” explained Pastor Wilson. “We can’t help everybody, everywhere but we can do something for somebody somewhere and it’s just an incredible honor to give back to Perry County.”
Pastor Wilson grew up in Thornville and chose Perry County as the recipient of some of the “Burrow Boxes.” They’ve made stops in Thornville, Junction City and the Southeast Perry County Food Pantry in Corning. So far over 300 boxes had been returned to the church weighing in at over three tons of food.
“It shows that the congregation that I have the honor of pastoring is a congregation that knows they’ve been blessed and I’m so proud of them. They’re good good Christian people. They didn’t have to do it. They wanted to do it because they know they’ve been blessed and they wanted to pass on their blessing,” said Pastor Wilson.
On top of the food donations they also presented the Southeast Perry County Pantry a check of $1,000. The pantry’s organizers said they serve around 200 people a month.
