Cake Auction proceeds benefit Carr Center programs

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Carr Center wrapped up its 32nd annual Cake Auction at Colony Square Mall today.

Over 380 cakes are auctioned off to raise money for the Carr Center. The Carr Center serves Muskingum County as well as surrounding counties. All of the proceeds help subsidize the 10 programs offered at the center.

“At the Carr Center just within our in-house programs we serve probably about 65 people….40-50 children and about 25 adults,” said Kim Hosler the Executive Director at the Carr Center. “And then, for some of our other programs that go out into the community like our transportation program, safety town, special riders that goes to a couple hundred.”

Programs at the Carr Center include Adult Day Health Services and Youth Programs. Adults needing daytime support outside of their homes are able to go to the center. And children as young as 18 months old are able to receive speech therapy.

“This is what really keeps our doors open. It’s a lot of community involvement really like no other place I’ve ever lived,” said Tracy Miller the Carr Center Service Coordinator. “And it does help us to run our programs every year. So we can offer parents sometimes a scholarship.”

Several businesses, organizations, and more donated cakes with incentives to the auction. This year $117,530 was raised. That is up $7,410 from last year.
