ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Caroline Pinson, daughter of Kevin and Amy Pinson of Zanesville, won first place in the 10-11 age group at the 2016 Fraternal Order of Eagles’ God, Flag and Country speech contest for the second year in a row.

On Wednesday, she was a guest speaker at the Zanesville Kiwanis Club meeting at the North Terrance Church of Christ to share her 1st place speech.

“Last year was a bit touchy, I wrote about my grandfather and how he was a veteran,” said Pinson. “I have to tie in god, flag and country in the topic and this year I chose to write about gender equality.”

Pinson said that her topic this year was of gender equality was inspired by a book that one of her teachers let her read about the differences between men and women.

She also said that going in to the contest this year she was a little bit nervous.

“I won nationals last year and I did the same this year,” said Pinson. “I felt a little bit pressured this year because I won it last year and people expect you to win again, but I did my best and I’m happy to win it again.”

Pinson said that she’s interested in engineering, and maybe she will major in it whens she’s in college.

She also said that all of the money she has won from the competitions would go towards her college fund.
