Christ Table Story Generates Bounty

***Update*** Since this story aired on Whiz T-V and Radio — Christ Table got a 400 pound donation of melons, cucumbers and other produce from an area farmer. 

Christ’s Table reports that donations are up nearly 25% from this time last year.  Executive director Keely Warden said Christ’s Table served just under 500 meals last month to area children and provided about 1,000 additional meals to the Red Cross during the storm that knocked out electricity nearly three weeks ago.  "Families know we’re here for them, we’re here for anybody that needs a meal, I think that has a lot to do with it. Our winter numbers were up, we knew that from the mild winter we had, people were able to get to us," said Warden. The dry weather is causing some concern for the organization.  With farmers in danger of losing their crops to the drought, Warden is worried that produce donations from area farmers will be down, but hoped that they will continue to give anyway.  "We do budget lower in our summer months knowing that the fresh produce is going to come through the door and we’re not going to have to purchase it, so as much as we know everyone is suffering, we still want to remind our farmers and our growers that we’re here and if you do have a little bit extra please share it and don’t feel bad if it’s not bushels and bushels," added Warden  .Warden said that the positive media attention has shown people in the community that their services aren’t just for the homeless.
