ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Timber Run Gardens is a landscape garden center that has been around since 1974.

Right now they have all kinds of trees and decorations set up for members of the community to take home. When walking into the center you will see a variety of trees lit up and Owner Steve Carter said, whether it is a slim tree or a hefty tree, it is all in the eyes of the beholder.

“I mean we do a complete Christmas shop and we think it’s pretty special so a lot of people come and take pictures and bring their kids. It’s a nice place to come,” Carter said.

There are three different kinds of trees available, the artificial tree that he said really has improved over the years and looks almost as if it’s real. Then there is the cut tree, their specialty is the Fraser Fir tree which is soft, has great needle retention and is very fragrant. Finally, there is the live trees to plant after Christmas and he mentioned to be careful with getting too big of a tree because the height and weight can make it difficult to get into your house.

Carter said if you get a cut tree there are steps to taking care of it to make sure that it lasts and does not get too dry and become a fire hazard.

“The biggest thing is probably give it a fresh cut and we’ll do that here for you so it’ll have moisture retention. You have it in a stand that has water and just watch that you keep that full of water and it’ll absorb into the tree and keep it nice and fresh,” Carter said.

Carter’s personal favorite is the cut tree but said everyone has a different idea of what a tree should look like for Christmas. Timber Run Gardens has a Night of Lights event 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 29th, where they will begin a half price sale. You can find more information by going to their Facebook.
