City Relocates 109 Geese From Putnam Landing Park

If you’ve visited Putnam Landing Park recently, you may be wondering about the lack of feathery company.

Wild geese have been living in and around the park for many years now, and they have grown to become a very large flock over time. Now, though, those geese are gone. We sat down with public service director Jay Bennett to talk about the removal. He says the large group of birds was causing the city some issues.

"It just became, for the city, as a responsible entity, for public transportation, public access to property, such as a park. We had to take steps to go ahead and mitigate the problem."

Some of those problems included the blocking of traffic and damage to private property. Bennett says the removal of the geese cost the city a little over $1,400. Bennett explains what happened to the geese.

"So it was a contractor out of the Caldwell area. That discussion with him signed a contract and then, over a couple weeks time he had contracted a pen if you will, and then was able to capture and safely relocate them."

Bennett says all 109 geese are now safe and sound at a farm outside of the city.
