College Goal Sunday At Zane State College
State wide High School seniors visited local college campuses to learn more about financial aid on this “College Goal Sunday”.
Locally, Zane State College hosted the event. Students and parents were encouraged to attend the free event where volunteers helped them complete their free application for federal student aid.
“This is so amazing for the students,” said Zane State College Financial Aid Adviser, Stacy Bernard. “A lot of students are very afraid to fill out the FAFSA’s because you’re dealing with Department of Education, and your finances and all that stuff. So if you come in here I have 22 volunteers, you come in and we’re more than happy to help anyone fill out their FAFSA. If you have questions we answer them. We do it step by step from start to end.”
The event is presented by the Ohio Association Of Student And Financial Aid Administrators. According to Bernard you should fill out that FAFSA as soon as possible.
“Oh, fill out the FAFSA as soon as you can. Apply for scholarships and just relax. It’s not that hard to do and everyone is intimidated, but once you get in there and you start filling it out, we have a lot of people that leave here and once they leave they say ‘oh, that was easy, that was amazing that you guys held this’, so just do it and if you have questions on it call us, but definitely start working on that financial part and get that FAFSA done.”
If you are a student who missed out on Sunday’s event Bernard encourages you to call the College you plan to attend and ask the Financial Aid Department for help.
