Zanesville, Ohio- OSU Extension office met with the Commissioner’s office today to talk about their annual budget.

Extension Educator Chris Penrose says getting the money for a Family and Consumer Science will provide the area several helpful programs.

“Family and Consumer Sciences provides lots of different programs,” said Penrose. “Nutrition is one of them  (such as) food preservation (which) is one.”

Penrose said although it will cost some money, it will not be all on the local tax dollars.

“OSU Extension provides a cost for the person,” said Penrose. “So the remaining of the salary will come from state and federal dollars… and in addition the potential of a SNAP-ED person that would be totally deferral funded and would come at no cost from local funds.”

The decision on, if there will be an additional hire, has yet to be made.
