Community Partnership To Clean Up Park Property

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Muskingum Valley Park District and the Friends of Putnam have agreed to join forces to clean up park property in Zanesville.

The coalition is starting with a clean up of property near Putnam’s Landing on Muskingum Avenue. Park District executive director Russell Edgington explains how the partnership came to be.

“About a year ago we were contacted by a new group of concerned citizens called the Friends of Putnam and they wanted to see that property sort of cleaned up and developed into publicly accessible land and that started the process. They have actually become an actual, official non-profit organization, and we actually signed a memorandum of understanding with them about two months ago.”

Edgington says there is already a plan in place for what the land will be developed into.

“It is basically at this point just going to be green space. It will provide access to the river and we’re kinda starting out with a model project. Zanesville Steel is actually donating the labor and materials to clear the invasive species and stuff from the parcel that’s just adjacent to their property.”

There is no timetable for when the project will end but it has been officially underway for more than a week.
