Community Theater’s ‘Annie Get Your Gun’

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – At the Zanesville Community Theater the final performance of ‘Annie Get Your Gun,’ was put on.
The show sold out every single performance expect for one. The play documents the life of sharpshooter Annie Oakley. Show director Angel Palmer said some people were surprised to learn that Annie Oakley was not only a real person, but that she was an Ohioan.
“I just love the idea that we have a young girl who at the time defied gender stereotypes and went out and made a name for herself doing shooting, which was a man’s sports. And that she had a husband who was supporting and encouraged her to make her dreams come true,†said Palmer.
The show used a cast of 32 on-stage performers. Palmer said it was an honor to get to show the life on one of Ohio’s most famous daughters.
“People have left here just amazed at the amount of talent that Zanesville has and the quality of the work that our young people produced. We have them as young as six up to their 70s in our cast and all of these people have been so dedicated and committed to brining the story to life and it’s been absolutely wonderful,†said Palmer.
The next performance at Zanesville Community Theater is ‘Forgiven: A Fairy Tale,’ which starts in February.
