Corona Virus has called for local Salvation Army to make slight changes in daily procedures

ZANESVILLE – The pandemic has not deterred the charitable organization from having its staff be present from 8 AM to 4:30 PM each day and the shelter is open 24 hours a day and seven days a week. One of the biggest differences is the way the staff delivers a food box to a client and this adjustment was made entirely so people can practice social distancing.
“If someone comes for a food box, we just meet them at the front door and set it out for them. They pick it up and take it to their car where before we would have them come in, shop what they want and we would even take it out to their car for them a lot of times. So, that’s one of the biggest changes,” Salvation Army – Zanesville’s George Bates said.
Bates wanted to reiterate that the organization, despite some confusion, is not closed. The staff is still continuing with its mission in the wake of this uncertain time.
“A lot of people think we’re closed. I know that you look at the door and there’s a big stop sign there and if they don’t bother to read it, they assume we’re closed but we’re still here doing what we do. We’re just trying to follow the Government’s mandates and keep everybody safe, get through this thing, and get back to normal,” Bates said.
The Salvation Army will continue to do whatever is recommended by Governor DeWine even after May 1st which is the tentative date for non-essential businesses to re-open.
