County developing new plans for Dog Warden and Adoption Center

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center are looking to relocate to a new building. However, after their estimate was nearly doubled, it was back to the drawing board.

The Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center is looking to move to a Sheriff’s old evidence recovery warehouse. The first rounds of bids were too high, so representatives met with the County Commissioners, and others to redesign a more affordable remodel. County Commissioner, Cindy Cameron said she thinks they can get this done.

“To me, anything would be better than what we have up on the hill as we all know. So, if we could just explore different opportunities. We had a room for a vet, we may have to put that off. Different things that we can wait and do at a later time and things that possible. Our maintenance department they could build bathrooms, and build the offices. Now that we know what the high cost is, some of these things we can try and do in-house,” Cameron said.

Cameron added that they still have many things to look over, but she believes that today was a step back in the right direction.

“We want this project to happen. We just have to get it back down to where our estimate was to make it work.” Cameron added, “Well, we are going to take the architect back to the office with us. We have some definite ideas to reduce the cost.”

While the Commissioners, Dog Warden representatives, and more were shocked by the initial bids, they believe they can still get new facility they desperately need.
