County Sheriff’s sales auction held in front of Muskingum Co. Courthouse

ZANESVILLE – Several local residents gathered in front of the Muskingum County Courthouse this morning to place their bids for the County Sheriff’s sales auction.

Different audience members placed their wagers for several properties in the county. Sheriff Matt Lutz speaks about the types of properties that were sold.

“There was an array of different sales today. We did the regular foreclosure sales that get filed through the Sheriff’s Office. We do the advertisement in the paper and we go back and sell those foreclosures. Chris Hamill, our treasurer, will bring us tax sales when they go through all of the proper channels and we’re selling property through the county with the tax sale. Those get sold here,” Lutz said.

The final property auctioned was passed to the Sheriff’s Office from the Muskingum County Commissioners. It is a less than one acre property found on Manchester Drive in Falls Township. It was awarded to a bidder for $500.

“It’s some type of property that the county took possession of for some reason. Through all of the advertisement and not being able to do anything with it, the last course is pretty much bringing it here and try to get a bid on it,” Lutz said.

The Sheriff’s sale is typically held in the courthouse but it was done outside for safe social distancing.
