ZANESVILLE, Ohio – City leaders is boosting kids’ self-esteem with a simple snip.

Zanesville Fire Department along with EMS and the local law enforcement is teaming up for the very first time to provide free haircuts to local children going back to school this fall.

“Back to school time is a financial burden for everybody. At this time of year when we can all come together and help our community, that’s what we do. So I figured, what better time to do it then at this time,” said Amy Thompson, Detective, Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office.

The event will take place Saturday, August 13th at Secrest Auditorium located off of Shinnick St. from noon to 4 p.m. Detective Thompson said they decided to have this event as a way to give back to the community.

“My motto that I always try to live by is, nothing every happens in your comfort zone, offering things that may at first seem scary or new. It just feels go to be able to be apart of something bigger then just yourself and your circle that you’re comfortable with,” said Thompson.

Detective Thompson said they plan to make this an annual event.
